Santa Barbara Dance Arts company members favorite time of year. March, when our weekends start to load up with Tech Rehearsal and Dress Rehearsal getting ready for a big show starring all the members in company, which we like to call Configuration. We perform two day shows and four night shows total over the span of two weekends. Configuration is put on by Center Stage Theatre, which is a smaller venue above California Pizza Kitchen (CPK), that seats about 100-150 people per show. This is why we have two weekends, due to the smaller venue makes it a more intimate gathering for our loved ones to experience what we work so hard towards all year long! From parents, grandparents, cousins, siblings, dance arts alumni, past dance teachers, classmates, so much more. Center Stage is a sold out venue packed with the people we love and ready to express our passion to through the movement of our bodies.

Above are some of the titles of our dance numbers we performed, the first weekend. Little did we know at the time, our first weekend was the only weekend we were going to get. Configuration 2020 was cancelled. The alternative due to very very unfortunate circumstances was to run the show full out with all pieces, minus the audience. Let me remind you, if you haven’t ever performed, I’m sincerely sorry. The rush I get from being on stage, the lights on your face, the energy that comes from your peers on stage with you and the ones cheering from the wings. A special feeling. Anyways, we recorded our last and final tape of Config 2020. The day was very emotional due to wanting to comfort each other but we were forbidden to hug due to the virus taking this away from us, COVID-19. In a few weeks, we will have an online screening where we can see all ourselves dancing together through our own devices, before our life got put on pause temporarily. Even though we are sad to not have a proper end to Configuration, nor give our seniors a proper send off to our 2020 seniors we are lucky to have this alternative to watch the video all together, in spirit.
